Description

Save for a very few exceptions in the past, Porsche has traditionally participated in sports car racing with the 911. This long running tradition was broken in 2015, when Porsche added a GT4 motorsport base model to the Cayman line up.

The Cayman GT4 was the fastest Cayman in its history, with many components carried over from the 911. The engine is a 3.8L horizontally opposed 6 cylinder from the Carrera S, producing more power than the 911 Carrera at 379 BHP. The front suspension and brakes use components from the 911 GT3, and greatly exceed the performance levels of the other Caymans in terms of stability and braking.

But its evolution did not end there. In the following year in 2016, Porsche further refined the GT4 in the Cayman GT4 Clubsport.

This special Cayman is a pure race version for track use. Any and all creature comforts remaining on the roadgoing Cayman GT4 were stripped away to make this a complete competition machine.

On the interior a roll cage protects the driver, and the seats have been replaced with full bucket seats. To shave every last second off of laptimes, the 6 speed manual transmission is replaced with a DCT and the suspension and brakes use components equal to the 911 GT3 Cup car. The engine power is still the same as the GT4 model, but the suspension and drivetrain are all tailored for using full slick tyres in the world of competition.

Being a midship engined car, there are many who praise the advantage of the Cayman over the rear engined 911. The GT4 Clubsport is the ultimate version of the Cayman, which takes full advantage of its character.
